For most Indian homes, the best window treatment is a layered one: a sheer for daytime privacy and a heavier curtain or blackout blind for heat and sleep. Hang curtains high and wide so windows look taller and fabric does not block light.

- Width: use fabric about 2 to 2.5 times the track width for full, even pleats.

The right home decor items are few, well-scaled and personal. A large mirror, one piece of art, some greenery and a handful of objects you love do more than shelves full of small accessories.
- Mirrors: place opposite or beside windows to bounce light; sculpted or arched frames soften a boxy room.
